description

‘Cape Breeze’ Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum ‘Cape Breeze’) is an airy yet tidy ornamental grass selected for its compact size, upright habit, and earlier bloom time. Its tightly packed, cloud-like flowers fill the middle layer of the garden bed, adding soft texture and gentle movement as they sway in the breeze!
Blooming from August through October, light pink to soft green panicles rise above deep green foliage. As the season progresses, the seedheads mature to a light golden tan, extending visual interest well into fall. Notably, the green foliage remains attractive through late October.
‘Cape Breeze’ performs best in full sun with average, well-drained soil and tolerates periods of drought once established. Beyond its refined appearance, Panicum virgatum ‘Cape Breeze’ provides valuable shelter and nesting material for wildlife, and its seeds serve as a food source for birds, making it both a structural and ecological asset in the garden!
