description
Blazing Star ‘Kobold’ (Liatris spicata ‘Kobold’) is a selected form of our native Blazing Star, admired for its more compact, shorter habit. While smaller in stature than the straight species, ‘Kobold’ still delivers a strong vertical element, perfect for the medium-height layer of a garden design!
Blooming from late June to August, fluffy, dark pink-purple flower spikes rise above multiple sturdy stems lined with long, narrow leaves. Its vibrant color and upright form make it an attractive and reliable choice for summer interest.
‘Kobold’ performs best in full sun with average to moist, well-drained soil. Like the straight species, it is beloved by butterflies, hummingbird moths, hummingbirds, and many other pollinators. As the season progresses, its seed heads provide fall interest while serving as a food source for birds, adding beauty and ecological value well beyond its bloom time.
