description
Spotted Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum) is a tall, sturdy perennial that makes itself known in the back of a garden bed! A true pollinator magnet, it’s an excellent choice for rain gardens and other consistently moist locations.
Blooming from late July through September, large lavender-pink, flat-topped flower clusters rise high above strong, purple-spotted stems. Spotted Joe Pye Weed performs best in full sun to part shade with wet to consistently moist soil, and it appreciates reliable moisture in drier settings.
Beyond its bold presence, Eutrochium maculatum serves as the host plant for the Great Tiger (Arctia caja) and Three-lined Flower (Schinia trifascia) moths! This late-season bloomer is highly valuable to native bees, butterflies, skippers, moths, and hummingbirds, making it an ecologically important addition to the garden.
