description
Purple Lovegrass (Eragrostis spectabilis) is a dreamy late-summer flowering grass, creating a cloud of soft purple blooms you’re sure to love! Its delicate, airy panicles shimmer and move in the breeze, forming a hazy purple mist along the front row of a sunny garden bed.
Blooming from August through October, fine panicles rise above light green, narrow foliage and open into purple-red, cloud-like flowers. Purple Lovegrass thrives in full sun with dry to average soil and is highly drought tolerant, making it an excellent choice for tough, sunny locations.
More than just a short pink-purple cloud, Eragrostis spectabilis serves as a host plant for the Zabulon Skipper (Lon zabulon), and its seeds provide food for birds! In fall, the foliage and seedheads transition to a lovely golden-tan haze, extending seasonal interest into early winter.
