description

White Turtlehead (Chelone glabra) is the perfect addition to moist or wet garden areas, especially rain gardens! Its white to soft pink blooms appear in late summer to early fall, providing beautiful late-season interest when many other plants are fading.

Blooming from August through September, its distinctive turtlehead-shaped flowers form compact spikes atop stiff stems, rising above glossy, dark green lance-shaped foliage. White Turtlehead thrives in full sun to part sun and prefers consistently moist to wet soil, benefiting from supplemental watering during drought.

More than just a lovely late-season bloomer, Chelone glabra is an important nectar source and serves as the host plant for the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly (Euphydryas phaeton)! It is also highly attractive to bumblebees, hummingbirds, and a variety of other pollinators, making it a valuable and ecologically significant addition to the garden.
